Assessments Overview, Types, and List
Platts’ carbon credit assessments reflect the value for carbon credits available to be freely traded between companies and countries and conforming to the standards set out by the Taskforce on the Scaling of Voluntary Carbon Markets (TSVCM). Platts carbon credit assessments reflect bids, offers and trades as reported in either the Platts Market on Close process, in the brokered market, or on trading and exchange instruments.
Platts CEC:
This assessment reflects the most competitive carbon credits eligible for the International Civil Aviation Organization’s (ICAO) CORSIA program. ICAO has created the Carbon Offsetting and Reduction Scheme for International Aviation – or CORSIA – to cap international aviation emissions from 2021. While airlines are expected to invest in other emissions-reducing options, the expectation is that most of this will be accomplished through the purchase of voluntary carbon credits. S&P Global Platts provides a robust and independent daily price assessment and market commentary for the CORSIA- eligible carbon credit market.
Platts CNC:
This assessment reflects the most competitive nature-based carbon credits that either avoid or remove GHG emissions. Platts CNC and Household Devices Carbon Credit Price Assessments are for buyers looking to offset carbon emissions and are focused on how those emissions are offset. The growth in this area has led to a surge in demand for credits generated by nature-based and community-based projects.
Platts CAC:
Platts reflects carbon credit types for projects leading to a reduction or avoidance in GHG emissions, including credits issued for the following: Household Devices; Industrial pollutants; Nature-based Avoidance.
Platts CRC:
Platts reflects carbon credit types for projects resulting in a removal of existing GHG emissions from the atmosphere. These include credits issued for the following types of projects: Natural Carbon Capture; Technological Carbon Capture. Platts CRC (Carbon Removal Credit) assessments involve projects that remove existing GHG emissions from the atmosphere. These CRC assessments include credits issued for projects such as Natural Carbon Capture (projects resulting in reforestation, afforestation & wetland management, etc.) and Technological Carbon Capture (projects that remove existing carbon in the atmosphere, such as direct air capture, and neutralize it).
Platts also publishes conversions for all of the above assessments for 12:00 GMT in Euros, Brazilian Reals, Indian Rupees, Japanese Yen, Australian Dollars, Singapore Dollars and Russian Rubles.
